The Best Windows Hosting for ASP.NET Sites

Most web hosting runs on Linux. That works for WordPress, PHP apps and static sites, but some projects are built on Microsoft technology: classic ASP.NET Web Forms and MVC apps, sites that depend on Microsoft SQL Server, or software that expects Internet Information Services (IIS). For those, you need a host that runs Windows Server.

The Windows hosting market is much smaller than the Linux one, and fewer providers publish detailed specs for it. Among the providers we track, AccuWebHosting publishes the most complete Windows plans, versions and pricing, so it takes both of the top spots here:

  • AccuWebHosting Windows Hosting: our #1 pick for shared ASP.NET and .NET hosting, managed through Plesk.
  • AccuWebHosting Windows VPS: our #2 pick when you need full administrator and Remote Desktop (RDP) access to your own Windows Server.
  • HostNoc Windows VPS: our next pick after AccuWeb, a budget Windows VPS with large SSD storage and a choice of Windows Server versions.

Building a WordPress site instead? You do not need Windows hosting; if you only need managed WordPress, see Kinsta.

What Is Windows Hosting?

Windows hosting is web hosting on servers running Microsoft Windows Server instead of a Linux distribution. The operating system itself is rarely the point. What matters is the Microsoft software stack it supports:

  • IIS (Internet Information Services): Microsoft's web server, which serves ASP.NET applications natively.
  • ASP.NET and .NET: Microsoft's web frameworks, including the older .NET Framework (Windows-only) and the cross-platform .NET Core line (now simply called .NET).
  • Microsoft SQL Server (MS SQL): Microsoft's relational database, common in business and line-of-business applications.
  • Plesk: a control panel that runs on Windows Server and lets you manage domains, sites, databases, email and SSL from a browser.

On shared Windows hosting, the provider manages the server and you manage your sites through the control panel. On a Windows VPS, you get your own virtual server with administrator rights and connect to it through Remote Desktop.

Windows vs Linux Hosting

Neither platform is better in general. Each is the natural home for a different set of technologies.

If your site is built with PHP, WordPress or a typical open-source stack, Linux hosting is usually simpler and cheaper. Our best web hosting guide covers those options.

Do You Need Windows Hosting?

The answer depends on what your application is built with, not on what operating system you use on your own computer. You can manage a Linux host perfectly well from a Windows PC.

You Need Windows Hosting If

  • Your app targets the .NET Framework (versions 4.x, 3.x or 2.x), such as ASP.NET Web Forms or classic ASP.NET MVC. The .NET Framework runs only on Windows.
  • Your app depends on IIS-specific features or modules.
  • You rely on Microsoft SQL Server and want it alongside your site on the same platform.
  • You need to run Windows-only software on the server, which calls for a Windows VPS.

You May Not Need Windows Hosting If

  • Your app is built on ASP.NET Core or modern .NET. These are cross-platform and can run on Linux as well as Windows. Windows hosting is still a convenient choice if you want IIS, Plesk and MS SQL in one place, but it is not a requirement.
  • You are building a WordPress site or a PHP application. Those belong on Linux hosting.
Rule of thumb: .NET Framework means Windows. .NET Core or modern .NET means either platform works, so choose based on your database, tooling and team.

1. AccuWebHosting Windows Hosting: Best Overall Windows Hosting

AccuWebHosting has been operating since 2003 and treats Windows and .NET hosting as one of its specialties. Its Windows shared hosting runs on Windows Server 2022 with IIS and is managed through Plesk. AccuWeb lists support for ASP.NET 4.x, 3.x and 2.x, .NET Core 9.0, 8.x, 7.x and 6.x, MVC 5 and 4, Node.js and MS SQL 2019 Standard.

Every plan includes free daily backups and free Let's Encrypt SSL, and the plans carry a 30-day money-back guarantee. AccuWeb also offers a free trial on its Windows hosting, which is useful if you want to deploy a test build before committing. Support is available 24/7 through tickets, live chat and phone, and AccuWeb says its first ticket response comes in under 11 minutes.

Supported Versions and Technologies

Version support is the first thing to check, because an app built for one framework version may not run on another. Here is what AccuWeb lists for its Windows shared hosting.

As listed by AccuWebHosting in October 2026. Confirm the exact version your project targets before you buy.

Plesk vs cPanel on Windows

If you have used shared hosting before, you have probably used cPanel. It is worth knowing that cPanel runs only on Linux, so you will not find it on any Windows host. Plesk is the standard alternative: it runs on Windows Server and gives you a browser dashboard for domains, IIS sites, databases, email accounts, SSL certificates and file management.

The day-to-day tasks are similar in both panels, but the layout and terminology differ. If you want a broader look at hosting control panels, our SPanel vs cPanel comparison explains how panels shape the hosting experience on the Linux side.

2. AccuWebHosting Windows VPS: Best for Full Windows Control

Shared Windows hosting is managed for you, but it limits what you can install. If you need to configure IIS yourself, install server software, run scheduled tasks or use Windows desktop applications, a Windows VPS is the better fit. AccuWeb's Windows VPS includes the Windows Server license on standard plans, with Windows Server 2019 or 2022 and 2025 on larger plans. You get full RDP and administrator access, and you can run IIS, ASP.NET, .NET Core and PHP.

PlanIntro (12-Month)RenewalRAMvCPUSSDBandwidth

VPS Pearl$9.99/mo$14.99/mo2 GB160 GB750 GB
VPS Diamond$19.99/mo$39.99/mo4 GB3100 GB1.5 TB

As listed by AccuWebHosting in October 2026. Larger plans (Emerald and Mellite) are also available.

Up to 2 users can connect over RDP at the same time; extra Remote Desktop CALs start at $40 a month for 5 devices. Basic 24/7 infrastructure support is included, with fully managed support available as an add-on, and there is a 7-day money-back guarantee. AccuWeb also runs a free Windows VPS offer: one month free, then $14.97 a month, with no credit card required. Our Windows VPS hosting guide covers sizing, licensing and security in detail.

Strengths

  • Windows Server license included on standard plans
  • Full administrator and RDP access
  • Free first-month offer available
  • Larger plans with Windows Server 2025

Limitations

  • You manage the server unless you add managed support
  • More than 2 RDP users requires paid CALs
  • Shorter 7-day money-back window

Shared Windows Hosting vs Windows VPS for .NET Apps

The choice comes down to control and resources. Shared hosting is cheaper and hands-off. A VPS gives you a whole Windows Server to configure, which means more power and more responsibility. Our shared vs VPS hosting guide explains the general trade-offs.

A good path for many projects is to start on shared Windows hosting and move to a VPS when the app needs more memory, background services or custom server configuration.

3. HostNoc Windows VPS: Budget Windows VPS With Large SSD Storage

HostNoc, founded in 2018, sells Windows VPS on the same HN-SSD plans it lists across its VPS pages. HostNoc lists Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2022, plus Windows 10 and Windows 11 VPS options, with full administrator access over RDP. It says the plans suit ASP.NET and IIS sites, MS SQL, CRM and ERP software and development environments, and it lists a built-in firewall, automatic OS-level updates and DDoS protection.

HN-SSD II$14.90/mo$37.25/mo38 GB400 GB

"60% off" sale prices as listed by HostNoc in October 2026. HostNoc does not state the sale end date or renewal rate; confirm the renewal rate at checkout.

HostNoc offers both managed and unmanaged VPS and advertises a "99.9% SLA backed uptime guarantee." Its Windows VPS page notes that Windows licensing may increase cost, and the plan cards do not say whether a license is included, so confirm licensing before you order. HostNoc's web hosting page also lists Windows shared hosting, but those prices were not captured, so check HostNoc's site for current Windows shared plans. See our HostNoc review.

Strengths

  • 300 GB SSD on the entry plan
  • Windows Server 2016, 2019 or 2022
  • Full administrator access over RDP
  • Managed and unmanaged options

Limitations

  • Windows license inclusion not stated
  • Renewal rates not published
  • VPS excluded from the money-back guarantee

Why Windows Hosting Can Cost More

Windows hosting often costs a little more than comparable Linux hosting. The main reason is licensing. Linux distributions are typically free, while Windows Server and some Microsoft software are licensed products, and hosts build those costs into their prices. Extra Remote Desktop users on a VPS add their own licensing fees, which is why AccuWeb charges for additional CALs.

AccuWeb's entry Windows shared plan is $3.49 a month on a 36-month term, renewing at $4.99. Its Windows VPS starts at $6.33 a month on a 12-month term with the Windows license included on standard plans. When you compare prices, look at:

  • The renewal price, not just the introductory rate.
  • The contract length behind the advertised price.
  • Whether the Windows license and MS SQL are included.
  • Backup costs and whether backups are included.
  • The cost of extra RDP users on a VPS.

How to Choose Windows Hosting

Use this checklist before you buy:

  1. Confirm the framework. Check whether your project targets the .NET Framework or .NET Core, and which version.
  2. Check the database. Make sure the host supports the MS SQL version you need.
  3. Decide on control. Plesk on shared hosting is enough for most sites; choose a VPS if you need RDP or custom installs.
  4. Count your domains. Shared Windows plans often cap the number of domains.
  5. Size the resources. Look at RAM per account, especially for larger apps.
  6. Review backups. Look for automatic daily backups and a simple restore process.
  7. Test first. Use a free trial or money-back window to deploy a test build.
  8. Check support. Make sure support understands IIS, Plesk and .NET.
