Kinsta vs SiteGround: The Quick Answer

Kinsta and SiteGround are both popular with WordPress site owners, but they sell different kinds of hosting. Kinsta is a premium managed WordPress host and our #1 overall pick. Every site runs in its own isolated container on Google Cloud, with a Cloudflare-powered CDN, free malware removal, free unlimited migrations and 24/7 support from WordPress engineers. SiteGround is a managed shared host known for its support reputation, daily backups on every plan and a polished custom dashboard called Site Tools.

The price gap is smaller than it first looks. SiteGround's intro rates start at $2.99 a month, but they require 12 months prepaid, and plans then renew at $17.99, $29.99 and $44.99 a month. Kinsta's entry plan costs $35 a month, or $30 a month billed annually. After year one, SiteGround's GrowBig plan costs about the same as Kinsta's entry plan on annual billing.

Choose Kinsta if your site earns money, gets steady traffic or simply needs to stay fast and secure without your attention. Choose SiteGround if you want several small sites, bundled email and phone support on a shared plan. If cost is the main concern, Bluehost is our budget pick. Pricing: Intro Rates vs Steady Rates

The two hosts price their plans in very different ways. SiteGround uses a classic shared-hosting model: a low intro rate for a prepaid first term, then a much higher regular rate. Kinsta lists one price that stays the same, with a discount for annual billing.

PlanIntro / MonthlyRenews At / AnnualWebsitesStorage
SiteGround StartUp$2.99/mo (12 mo)$17.99/mo110 GB

Kinsta WP 5$115/mo$96/mo annual530 GB

As listed by each provider in October 2026. SiteGround intro prices require 12 months prepaid. Kinsta's entry Single plan includes the first month free for new customers.

New Kinsta customers get the first month free on the entry Single plan, and a 30-day money-back guarantee applies after any free period. Annual billing gives you two months free. See Kinsta pricing and SiteGround pricing for every tier.

Total Cost Over Three Years

Because SiteGround's intro rate lasts only 12 months, the real comparison starts in year two. Here is what a single site costs over three years on each host's entry plan, plus SiteGround's larger plans for reference.

PlanYear 1Years 2–3Three-Year Total
SiteGround StartUp$35.88$431.76$467.64
SiteGround GrowBig$59.88$719.76$779.64
Kinsta Single 35k (annual)$350$700$1,050
SiteGround GoGeek$95.88$1,079.76$1,175.64

SiteGround: 12 months at the intro rate, then 24 months at the listed renewal rate. Kinsta: three years of annual billing at $350 a year. Excludes taxes, domains and add-ons.

Price Per Month After Year One

SiteGround StartUp

SiteGround GrowBig

Kinsta Single 35k (annual)
$30
Kinsta Single 35k (monthly)

SiteGround GoGeek

SiteGround renewal prices and Kinsta list prices as listed in October 2026.

For one site, SiteGround StartUp is the cheaper option over three years. Once you compare GrowBig or GoGeek, the gap closes or reverses: GrowBig renews at $29.99 a month, almost exactly Kinsta's annual rate, and GoGeek renews at $44.99, above Kinsta's monthly price. The trade-off is that SiteGround's larger plans allow unlimited sites, while Kinsta's single-site plans cover one site and its multi-site Business plans start at WP 2.

Performance and Infrastructure

Kinsta runs on Google Cloud, using C3D machines according to its changelog. Each site runs in its own isolated LXD container with Nginx, MariaDB and PHP 7.4 through 8.5, so a neighbor's traffic spike does not compete for your resources. Server-level full-page caching and edge caching are built in, and HTTP/3 is enabled by default. Kinsta says turning on edge caching can cut page load times by 49%, and it says sites can be up to 200% faster after migrating.

SiteGround runs its own hosting platform with server-level caching, a built-in CDN and its SG Optimizer tools for caching and image compression. It sells plans with unlimited traffic rather than visitor caps, though resource limits still apply, and higher tiers add more server resources. For small and medium WordPress sites, it is a well-tuned shared environment.

The core difference is isolation. On Kinsta, each site gets its own container on premium cloud machines. On SiteGround's shared plans, sites share a managed server environment. For a busy store or a site where speed affects revenue, that isolation is the main reason to pay Kinsta's price.

Traffic Limits and Overages

Kinsta lets you choose a visits basis or a bandwidth basis for single-site plans. The entry plan covers 35,000 visits a month, or 20 GB of bandwidth on the bandwidth basis, with 125 GB of CDN bandwidth. A Kinsta "visit" is each unique IP in a 24-hour period. If you exceed your limits, Kinsta keeps your site online, notifies you at 80% and 100% and bills overage fees.

SiteGround advertises unlimited traffic, with resource limits that apply to each plan. That suits small sites that do not want to watch a visit counter. For growing sites, Kinsta's clear limits and automatic notifications make it easier to predict when to move up a plan.

CDN and Data Centers

Kinsta's CDN is powered by Cloudflare with 300+ locations, and Kinsta offers 30 data centers, so you can choose a location close to your main audience. SiteGround includes a free CDN on its WordPress plans. If your visitors are concentrated in one region, check that the host you choose has a data center near them. Our what is a CDN guide explains how the two pieces work together.

Backups

Both hosts back up every plan daily. Kinsta runs automatic daily backups plus manual backups and system restore points, with at least 14 days of retention on entry plans and 20 to 30 days on larger plans. You can add backups every 6 hours for $20 per site a month, hourly backups for $100 per site a month, or external backups to AWS or Google Cloud for $2 per site a month plus $1 per GB.

SiteGround includes free daily backups stored in multiple locations on every plan, and GrowBig and GoGeek add on-demand backups, which are handy before risky changes. On backups alone, the two are closely matched for most sites.

Security and Malware Removal

Kinsta includes Cloudflare enterprise DDoS protection, two enterprise firewalls, 24/7 malware monitoring, uptime checks every 3 minutes, free SSL including wildcard certificates, two-factor authentication and SAML SSO. Kinsta holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications. Its Malware Security Pledge means Kinsta removes malware for free if your site is hacked.

SiteGround includes free SSL, its own security tooling and managed WordPress updates that keep core and plugins current. Both hosts take security seriously. Kinsta's free hack-fix guarantee is the extra safety net that matters most if a hacked site would cost you sales or leads.

Support

SiteGround's support is one of its best-known strengths. It includes 24/7 live chat and phone support on every plan, including StartUp, and GoGeek adds priority support. If you prefer to talk to someone on the phone, SiteGround has the advantage.

Kinsta's support is single-tier and available 24/7/365 from WordPress engineers, with live chat in 8 languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Japanese and Dutch. Kinsta states an average first response under 2 minutes, 97–98% satisfaction and a 47-minute median resolution time. Support is chat-based, with no phone line stated. Every customer reaches the same engineering team, whatever plan they choose.

Dashboard and Developer Tools

SiteGround's Site Tools dashboard replaces cPanel with a cleaner custom interface organized around sites, security, speed and email. Staging is a one-click task on GrowBig and above, and GoGeek adds Git integration.

Kinsta's MyKinsta dashboard includes one-click staging and push-to-live on every plan, Git, SSH, WP-CLI, one-click site cloning, a PHP version selector, search-and-replace, a redirects manager, a file manager and built-in APM at no extra cost. It supports unlimited users with granular permissions and an activity log, which helps teams and agencies. DevKinsta is a free local development tool, and MyKinsta is available in 8 languages. Developers get more tools on Kinsta's entry plan than on SiteGround's.

Email Hosting

SiteGround includes email hosting, so you can create addresses on your domain without another provider. Kinsta does not include email hosting, so you will pair it with a separate email service. For a small business that wants everything under one bill, this is a genuine point in SiteGround's favor. If bundled email matters on managed WordPress, WPX includes business email from its Business plan up.

Migrations

Kinsta offers free unlimited migrations handled by its migration team, with no downtime and scheduled around you. Kinsta says it completes about 1,100 migrations a month with 96% satisfaction, offers expedited migrations in as little as 8 hours, and cleans up malware for free if it finds any during a move. At the time of writing, SiteGround advertised a limited-time free site transfer on its plans. To move a site yourself, follow our WordPress migration guide.

WooCommerce and Business Sites

For stores, Kinsta marks its WP 5 and larger plans as recommended for ecommerce and membership sites, and Kinsta says it can improve store speeds by up to 200%. Isolated containers, free malware removal and engineer support suit stores where downtime costs sales. SiteGround also sells WooCommerce hosting on its shared platform, which works well for smaller shops. See our WooCommerce hosting guide for more options.

A Budget Option: Bluehost

If neither premium managed hosting nor SiteGround's renewals fit your budget, Bluehost is our #2 overall host and the budget pick on this page. Its WordPress Starter plan costs $3.99 a month for a 36-month intro term and renews at $9.99, with up to 10 sites and 10 GB of NVMe storage. Business costs $6.99 a month and renews at $13.99, with up to 50 sites, phone support and AI-powered malware detection. Bluehost includes a free first-year domain, free SSL, a free CDN, staging and weekly backups. Compare the two in Bluehost vs SiteGround.
