Kinsta vs WP Engine: The Quick Answer
Kinsta and WP Engine are two of the best-known managed WordPress hosts, and both are built for businesses that cannot afford a slow or broken site. Kinsta is our #1 overall host. It stands out for its 30 data centers on Google Cloud, container isolation for every site, free malware removal, free unlimited migrations and single-tier 24/7 support from WordPress engineers. WP Engine is a mature platform with a low annual entry price, cheaper extra sites and longer backup retention, according to WP Engine's plans page.
For most business sites, stores and agencies, we recommend Kinsta. WP Engine is a reasonable choice if long backup retention or its existing agency workflow matters most to you. Read the full Kinsta review and WP Engine review for more depth.

New customers get the first month free on the entry Single plan, and a 30-day money-back guarantee applies after any free period. Annual billing gives you two months free.
According to WP Engine's plans page, its Essential plan starts from $28 a month billed annually, with tiers from 1 to 30 sites, an estimated 25,000 to 400,000 visits and 75 GB of bandwidth. Larger Core and custom Enterprise tiers sit above it.

Entry Price Billed Annually (Per Month)
Annual billing prices as listed in October 2026.
On a single site, the annual prices are close. WP Engine's extra sites are cheaper at $20 a month versus Kinsta's $30. Kinsta's multi-site Business plans, from WP 2 for two sites up to WP 40 for 40 sites, often work out better than paying for add-on sites one by one. See Kinsta pricing for every plan.
Limits and Overages
Both hosts measure usage. Kinsta lets you choose a visits basis or a bandwidth basis, so you can pick the metric that best fits your traffic. A Kinsta "visit" is each unique IP in a 24-hour period. If you go over your visit, storage or CDN limits, Kinsta keeps your site online, notifies you at 80% and 100% of your limits and bills overage fees.
WP Engine's Essential tiers list an estimated visit range and 75 GB of bandwidth, and its plans page notes that overages may apply. With either host, check your analytics before choosing a plan, and size up if you expect a traffic spike.
Infrastructure and CDN
Kinsta runs on Google Cloud, using C3D machines according to its changelog. Every site runs in its own isolated LXD container with Nginx, MariaDB and PHP 7.4 through 8.5. Server-level full-page caching and edge caching are included, and HTTP/3 is on by default. Kinsta says turning on edge caching can cut page load times by 49%, and it says sites can be up to 200% faster after migrating.
Kinsta's CDN is powered by Cloudflare with 300+ locations. WP Engine also includes a Cloudflare-powered CDN, according to its plans page, and runs a platform built only for WordPress with caching tuned for larger sites.
Uptime Guarantees
Kinsta includes a 99.9% SLA-backed uptime guarantee on every site, not just higher tiers, and it runs uptime checks every 3 minutes. Enterprise and mission-critical plans raise the commitment to up to 99.99%, starting from $500 a month ($417 a month billed annually) with custom terms and account management.
According to WP Engine's plans page, a 99.99% SLA starts on its Core tier. If you need a formal guarantee on a smaller budget, Kinsta's SLA on its entry plan is a useful advantage.
Data Centers
Kinsta offers 30 data centers, so you can place your site close to your main audience on almost any continent. WP Engine offers data centers in multiple regions. If your visitors are concentrated in one country, check that each host has a location near them before you sign up.
Backups
Kinsta runs automatic daily backups on every plan, plus manual backups and system restore points. Retention is at least 14 days on entry plans and 20 to 30 days on larger plans. You can add backups every 6 hours for $20 per site a month, hourly backups for $100 per site a month, or external backups to AWS or Google Cloud for $2 per site a month plus $1 per GB.
According to WP Engine's plans page, its backups are kept 30 to 60 days. If long retention is a strict requirement, WP Engine has the edge out of the box, while Kinsta's external backup add-on lets you keep copies in your own cloud storage.
Security
Kinsta includes Cloudflare enterprise DDoS protection and two enterprise firewalls, 24/7 malware monitoring, free SSL including wildcard certificates, two-factor authentication and SAML SSO. Kinsta holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications. Its Malware Security Pledge means Kinsta removes malware for free if your site is hacked.
WP Engine provides managed security for WordPress on its platform. Both are strong choices for security-conscious businesses; Kinsta's free hack-fix guarantee is a clear benefit if you want that safety net included.
Support
Kinsta's support is single-tier and available 24/7/365 from WordPress engineers, with live chat in 8 languages. Kinsta states an average first response under 2 minutes, 97–98% satisfaction and a 47-minute median resolution time. Support is chat-based, with no phone line stated.
WP Engine provides 24/7 technical support, with priority support available and faster response targets on higher tiers. If you want the same expert help no matter which plan you choose, Kinsta's single-tier model is simpler.
Developer Tools
Kinsta's MyKinsta dashboard includes one-click staging and push-to-live, Git, SSH, WP-CLI, one-click site cloning, a PHP version selector, search-and-replace, a redirects manager and built-in APM at no extra cost. DevKinsta is a free local development tool that connects to your Kinsta sites. Premium staging environments are available for $20 per environment a month.
WP Engine is known for its development workflow, with staging environments and development tools aimed at agencies and in-house teams. Developers will be comfortable on either platform; Kinsta's built-in APM and free local tool are useful extras for diagnosing slow code.
Agencies and Multisite
Kinsta offers unlimited users with granular permissions, an activity log and bulk actions, which help agencies manage many client sites. Agency plans start at $340 a month ($284 a month billed annually) and include up to $10,000 in hosting credits for eligible agencies, an agency directory listing, unbranded WP admin and account management.
For WordPress Multisite, Kinsta says Single 65k plans and above fully support multisite with domain mapping, and its multisite page recommends a WP 2 plan or higher. WP Engine's Essential tiers cover 1 to 30 sites with $20 add-on sites. See our WordPress multisite hosting guide.
Email Hosting
Neither Kinsta nor WP Engine includes email hosting. With either host, you will use a separate email provider for addresses on your domain. If bundled email matters, WPX includes business email from its Business plan up.
WooCommerce
Kinsta marks its WP 5 and larger plans as recommended for ecommerce and membership sites, and Kinsta says it can improve store speeds by up to 200%. Its free malware removal, daily backups and 24/7 engineer support suit stores where downtime costs sales. WP Engine also hosts WooCommerce stores on its managed WordPress platform.
