Vultr Review (2026): Plans, Prices and Who Should Use It
Updated October 2026
Vultr at a Glance: The Short Verdict
Vultr is a cloud infrastructure provider that sells virtual machines, dedicated and bare metal servers, GPU servers, Kubernetes, managed databases and storage across 33 data center regions on six continents. Its Cloud Compute instances start at $2.50 a month on its pricing page, with a 1 GB RAM instance at $5 a month, billed hourly on a pay-as-you-go basis.
The short version: Vultr is a strong choice for developers who want low list prices, a wide spread of regions and a choice of CPU types. Like other infrastructure clouds, it gives you a server rather than a managed hosting service, so you set up and maintain the software. If you want Vultr's network without the server work, a managed platform that runs on Vultr is the easier path.
What Is Vultr?
Vultr's homepage and product pages list these product families:
- Virtual machines: Cloud Compute, Optimized Cloud Compute and the newer VX1 line.
- Bare metal and dedicated servers.
- Cloud GPU: GPU cloud servers.
- Vultr Kubernetes Engine: managed Kubernetes with a free control plane, per the pricing page.
- Managed databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Apache Kafka and Valkey.
- Storage: block storage and object storage.
- Marketplace: apps you can deploy onto a server.
Vultr also lists a CDN and BGP support.
Who it is for, in brief:
- Developers and DevOps teams who are comfortable configuring Linux servers.
- Projects that need a specific region, given the breadth of Vultr's footprint.
- Teams that want a mix of building blocks, from small VMs to GPUs and Kubernetes, under one account.
Vultr Pricing
Vultr's pricing is usage based. Its product page describes an hourly, pay-as-you-go billing model, and the pricing page lists a monthly figure for each instance.
Cloud Compute: Regular Performance
| Monthly | vCPU | RAM | Storage | Bandwidth |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $5/mo | 1 | 1 GB | 25 GB | 1 TB |
| $10/mo | 1 | 2 GB | 55 GB | 2 TB |
| $15/mo | 2 | 2 GB | 65 GB | 3 TB |
| $20/mo | 2 | 4 GB | 80 GB | 3 TB |
| $40/mo | 4 | 8 GB | 160 GB | 4 TB |
| $80/mo | 6 | 16 GB | 320 GB | 5 TB |
As listed on Vultr's pricing page, October 2026. Smaller 0.5 GB tiers are also listed at $2.50 and $3.50 a month (one labeled IPv6 only). The $5 instance is listed at $0.007 an hour.
Regular Performance is Vultr's entry line and runs on shared AMD and Intel CPUs, according to its Cloud Compute page. It is a sensible starting point for small sites, test servers and light applications. The 0.5 GB tiers are very small for a database-backed site such as WordPress, so most web projects start at 1 GB or 2 GB.
Cloud Compute: High Performance and High Frequency
| Plan | Monthly | vCPU | RAM | Storage | Bandwidth |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High Performance (AMD) | $6/mo | 1 | 1 GB | 25 GB | 2 TB |
| High Performance (AMD) | $12/mo | 1 | 2 GB | 50 GB | 3 TB |
| High Performance (AMD) | $18/mo | 2 | 2 GB | 60 GB | 4 TB |
| High Performance (AMD) | $24/mo | 2 | 4 GB | 100 GB | 5 TB |
| High Performance (AMD) | $48/mo | 4 | 8 GB | 180 GB | 6 TB |
| High Frequency | From $6/mo | 1 | 1 GB | 32 GB | 1 TB |
As listed on Vultr's pricing page, October 2026.
The High Performance line costs a little more than Regular Performance at the same RAM, and includes more storage and bandwidth per tier. For example, the 4 GB High Performance instance lists 100 GB of storage and 5 TB of bandwidth at $24 a month, against 80 GB and 3 TB for the $20 Regular Performance instance.
Optimized Cloud Compute and VX1
| Line | Starting Configuration | From |
|---|---|---|
| CPU Optimized | 1 vCPU, 2 GB RAM | $28/mo |
| General Purpose | See pricing page | $30/mo |
| Memory Optimized | See pricing page | $40/mo |
| Storage Optimized | See pricing page | $75/mo |
| VX1 | Dedicated resources | $43.80/mo |
As listed on Vultr's pricing and Cloud Compute pages, October 2026. Vultr says VX1 instances are billed on actual hours used and "are not capped at 672 hours."
Optimized Cloud Compute targets workloads that need a particular balance of CPU, memory or storage. VX1 is Vultr's newer line with dedicated resources.
How Vultr's Prices Compare With Other Clouds
Vultr, DigitalOcean and Linode, now sold as Akamai Cloud, all list similar shared-CPU instance shapes. Here is how their entry lines compare at common sizes.
| Specs | Vultr Regular | DigitalOcean Basic | Akamai Cloud (Linode) Shared |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 GB RAM, 1 vCPU | $5/mo | $6/mo | $5/mo |
| 2 GB RAM, 1 vCPU | $10/mo | $12/mo | $12/mo |
| 4 GB RAM, 2 vCPU | $20/mo | $24/mo | $24/mo |
| 8 GB RAM, 4 vCPU | $40/mo | $48/mo | $48/mo |
As listed by each provider in October 2026. Storage and transfer allowances differ by provider; compare full specs before choosing.
4 GB RAM, 2 vCPU Instance Price (Per Month)
As listed by each provider in October 2026.
On list price for these shapes, Vultr's Regular Performance line is the lowest of the three. Storage and transfer allowances differ, though, and the cheapest instance is not always the best value once you add backups, storage and your own time. See our DigitalOcean review and Linode review for those providers.
Vultr Key Features
A Wide Global Footprint
Vultr lists 33 cloud data center regions across six continents. A broad choice of regions helps when you want servers close to a specific audience, or need to keep data in a particular country.
Marketplace Apps
The Vultr Marketplace offers plug-and-play applications you can deploy at launch, which shortens setup for common software. You still maintain the server and the application after deployment.
API and Terraform
Vultr provides an API and a Terraform provider, so teams can create and manage infrastructure as code.
Networking and DDoS Protection
Cloud Compute includes DDoS mitigation against layer 3 and layer 4 attacks and a firewall. Vultr also supports BGP and offers a CDN.
Kubernetes, Databases and Storage
Vultr Kubernetes Engine provides the control plane free of charge, and you pay for worker nodes, block storage and load balancers. Managed databases cover MySQL, PostgreSQL, Apache Kafka and Valkey, which takes database maintenance off your plate even if your app servers are self-managed.
GPUs and Bare Metal
Vultr lists GPU cloud servers plus bare metal and dedicated servers. These matter for AI, rendering and high-performance workloads rather than typical websites.
Support, Backups, Security and Migrations
Support: The Vultr pages checked do not describe support tiers, an uptime SLA or a trial, so check Vultr's support options before running a business-critical site on it.
Backups: Cloud Compute supports server snapshots and scheduled automatic backups. Backup pricing is not stated on the pricing page, so confirm it in the control panel when you configure an instance.
Security: Vultr provides DDoS mitigation and a firewall at the network level. Securing the server itself, from operating system updates to application hardening, is your responsibility.
Migrations: Moving a website onto a Vultr instance is a do-it-yourself task unless you use a managed platform or hire help.

Who Should Use Vultr?
Vultr suits developers and technical teams who want inexpensive, flexible infrastructure in many regions and are comfortable running Linux servers. It is a good fit for applications, APIs, test environments and projects that need GPUs or Kubernetes.
Look elsewhere if you want a host to manage your WordPress or WooCommerce site, need 24/7 help with server-level problems, or would rather not handle updates, backups and security yourself. In those cases, a managed platform on top of Vultr or a managed VPS is a better match.
